As always the hosts were Natalie AKA StarzCast, (Owner, founder and CEO of Starz and affiliates) and myself, Maya AKA StarzMayaMoon.
Natalie naturally spreads "joy to the world" and gave us all a loving reminder that it doesn't need to be the holiday season for us to spread or share joy with others. I absolutely agree and for those of us that sharing "joy" doesn't come natural or we are uncertain where to start, both Natalie and I had some great ideas! As with most things in life if we repeat something enough times it can become a pattern or habit and what a wonderful habit to embrace by sharing joy or simply living in a state of grace and compassion.
I love that Natalie always is able to direct us in how the small details as we go about our daily lives' can offer unlimited possibilities and/or opportunities for showing care towards all humanity. She has shared with listeners before how her routine grocery shopping has grown into a ritual of being aware of other shoppers and ready to lend a much needed helping hand.
So perhaps if we all start this season with joy to the world, we can continue that into the New Year to become a habit we never desire to break!
With our family, friends and neighbors we shared lots of ideas on being compassionate and considerate is often the greatest gift we can give. As our modern world tends to lean towards a materialistic and sometimes superficial celebration; we can take our cue from Natalie (and others like her) and give to those that truly need it the most. And giving is not about expensive gifts or "outdoing" one another just to feel accomplished, sometimes giving elaborate or expensive items to others that are financially struggling can exacerbate their current circumstances. Instead get creative!
I came across several fun and super easy (and very inexpensive) ways to make gifts for others. Bath or shower scrubs for exfoliating, booklets filled with a friend’s favorite recipes, pictures or other such ideas. Hand painting the names of children, family members, grandchildren or even pets on cookie jars or containers and then perhaps filling those with homemade snacks. The internet is filled with hundreds of ideas, recipes; instructions that help us create thoughtful and loving gifts. Perhaps you have a neighbor or even a co-worker that is alone and you know will not be receiving gifts from anyone this year. A little joy goes a long way and homemade or baked "with love" treats or snacks are almost always welcomed by others.
Spiritually, whenever we give from the heart, we receive that joy we have shared back and this is how we can begin to make a habit to keep year round, and even change the world!
There is also energy that flows when we take time out of our busy schedules to perhaps make something to give, or even to use our time and our company as an actual gift.
The majority of us know at least one person that would greatly appreciate a knock at the door and tea, coffee and a homemade dessert, but rather than just dropping these off, stay and visit. For many people this month and this time of year is the loneliest and often most difficult. The greatest gift of joy we can very often give is ourselves, time visiting, or offering to run errands, do chores or just spending an hour or so visiting. If you don't know anyone specific, there are many nursing homes or senior citizen living centers where some cookies, or candy even store purchased would be so appreciated. And even more so taking the time to visit and share the "joy" that should be in our hearts not just this season, but all year as well.
For those that may struggle with being extroverts, what about visiting animal shelters and perhaps helping walk dogs or play with the cats for a few hours. Animals are spiritual creatures and need love and caring just as humans. In fact many humans can and would appreciate a little something for their animals rather than self and again the internet has amazing recipes that use everyday items most of us have in our cupboards.
The idea is to share joy by first opening your eyes and heart and keeping a watch out for someone that could use a little pick me up or a bit of joy this season. Next is considering that maybe even a family member or friend would so appreciate some time together or an offer of assistance for things that may not be able to do alone. There is literally and endless list of possible ideas; from fun and homemade foods and inexpensive items, to visiting, or even coupons to be used later. One lunch for this month, or help with cooking or organizing.
There is truly nothing that brings us more true joy than to GIVE and to do so in the spirit of giving with love and compassion in our hearts.
For ANYONE that has met or interacted with Natalie and even listeners that only know Natalie via BlogTalk, her joy is unmistakable and what a great icon to follow. If we all could be that empathic towards others, that aware of possible needs, and were always there to offer a helping hand, what a world we would live in.
Natalie certainly spreads joy wherever she goes, just in being herself but she also never fails to think about other people, to offer whatever she can, and to always be a "joy" even when she is not trying. Although we cannot clone Natalie, we can all certainly take a tip from how Natalie LIVES her life not just at Christmas time, but all year, that is truly a joyful way to live and to love.
