Happy Mother's Day-2016
"Mother" is not just a badge that we wear,
nor a title we earn by the children we bear.
A feminine pronoun that cannot convey,
the purest of love that all humans display.
A father, an uncle, a brother, a wife,
all can be "mother" to those in their life.
The elderly female that lives outside town,
that offers sanctuary to every stray cat around.
A young man that hurries from work to the park,
teaching and listening to the kids well past dark.
Where no one waits home, and none seem to care,
that young man is "mothering" every kid there.
The middle aged lawyer who sits in the court,
holding hands with the senior who files her report.
The couple who foster two boys in wheel chairs,
sadly accepting that no one else cares.
She dropped off a basket of fruits and fresh cheese,
to the neighbor that struggles with his cancer disease.
He reached in his pocket and paid for the bread,
seeing her children she struggled to keep fed.
The nurse stayed long after his shift was complete,
just listening to her stories of how life had been sweet.
She was gone as he patted her hand, closed her eyes,
At peace in knowing someone heard her last sigh.
So remember today as you move through your life,
a "mother" is truly defined by your life.
And for any and all moments when we stopped to care,
a mother is truly the love we all share.
Happy Mother's Day; to ALL the mother's, young, old, male and female, big or small. You are remembered always and may you celebrate in love.
