What is a Pendulum?

A pendulums appearance is similar to the pendulum which is used in physics or psychology to explain particular theories but these pendulums work by 'psychic forces' the beliefs on the function of them vary. Pendulums although do move in a fashion to answer a yes or no question.

Brief history of the pendulum - These materials or tools go back to ancient times when they looked very different. Then they were used more for dousing which is the art of finding things using metaphysical tools e.g. dousing sticks or pendulums which are the common ones. They were very popular in the Middle Ages and favored a lot until the nineteenth century when they started to fade in popularity. Back then they were mostly made of wood since that was a simple simple material to make them out of. After falling out of in the 20th century they became more popular. The British society of dousing was founded in 1933 and kept the practice alive.

There are many types and appearances of pendulums.

Chakra pendulum
These are pendulums with crystals arranged in a line on a chain in the order of the chakras. They usually have a white crystal at the very top where the pendulum is held. At the bottom there is a final crystal which is not part of the chakras. This can be any crystal but the most common is amethyst or rose quartz. These are mostly used to heal and to help with chakras probably as the name suggests.

Stack pendulum
These pendulums are a stack of crystals or rocks in the same order as the chakras. These are not as common nor as attractive but are used the same as the chakra pendulums.

Crystal pendulums
Probably the most common and most popular type of pendulum, these are usually a crystal suspended at the the end of a chain. It can be any crystal or mineral but the most common are amethyst, quartz and agate. The chain on these can be any type of metal, plain or fancy.

These are the original pendulum carved out of wood with usually a simple design engraved onto them and the chain can be metal or string. Paint is rarely applied to this type pendulum. These are the simplest to make and a good project if someone wishes to use a carving knife.

Custom pendulum
There are many additional types of pendulum, and all are worth a try. They can look amazing and really pretty. Custom pendulums are pendulums you have made yourself. These can take a considerable amount of time sometimes taking between an hour to three hours. You can use just about any material as long the pendulum bottom is made of a natural material.

Triangle pendulums are quite rare but very good to use and are recommended for grounding.

What are pendulums used for?

There are many things you can do with a pendulum but here are some of them:

• Search for water, minerals;
• To find energetically favorable and unfavorable sites;
• Investigate your health;
• Check food, medicines or a vitamins effect on your health;
• Evaluate romantic compatibility with another person;
• To find an unborn baby's sex;
• Figure out your fears or or the cause of why you feel bad;
• An attempt to establish a successful lottery ticket;
• Finding solutions to problems and answers to many questions.

How to get to know your pendulum and how to get one
Pendulums are used for many things. The most famous use is for dousing but there are actually probably over 50 uses of a pendulum especially if it is an accurate one.

What is Dousing?
Dousing is using a pendulum to find things, just using the way it swings. This can be very time consuming but can be very worth it.

A pendulum can easily be used for connecting to spirits, angels and so on depending who will 'listen.' This can be a dangerous use of a pendulum as you don't always know exactly what you are talking to. Not the easiest way to talk to a Spirit. A pendulum and how it answers questions can be very limited.

Asking questions is a very common use these days but the questions answered are limited to yes, no, maybe or I don't want to answer. They can be somewhat accurate and well worth a try. Never ask a pendulum the same question over and over as it will annoy it and the pendulum will start playing or joking around with you.

How to keep a pendulum happy and safe
Pendulums are like any divination item and they do need to be respected. All pendulums should have their own bag and cloth. This shows you care about them. You can take them everywhere with you but must keep them safe. Make sure you do not damage yours as they won't like this what-so-ever. They do not like being in the same bag or cloth as another pendulum.

Bathe them in salt water and put them in the sun if they are chakra, triangle or crystal pendulums but make sure the metal does not get wet so that it doesn't corrode or change color. Putting it in salt water cleanses it and keeps the crystal happy.

Pendulum theories - Many people have many beliefs about pendulums and how they work. It's up to you to make or select your own but there are many facts that you will have to accept. The most important one is that pendulums are guided by your spirit guides.
