The Chakra System
A chakra is an energetic center in the body which is responsible for a particular area in your life.
The chakra system was first talked about in the ancient and sacred texts called Vedas between 1500 to 500 BC. However, there are other Indian scholars that believe the chakra system originated earlier than this through an oral tradition that is exclusive to Indian culture.
Chakra Balancing
The root chakra is sometimes referred to by its Sanskrit name Muladhara because of its feminine energy. It is the foundation of raw energy, known as Kundalini, the Muladhara chakra is found at the base of the spine.
The chakras are used in yoga as a framework and as a tool for diagnosing issues in ayurvedic medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
When the first chakra is imbalanced you may feel:
- Extreme negativity, cynicism
- Pessimism
- You may develop eating disorders.
- Greediness, avarice
- Materialism
- Illusion
- Feel very insecure!
- And feel you are living in survival mode all the time.
An imbalance in the first chakra, may manifest in an overwhelming desire for security, because the world feels full of risks, for example you may have fears relating to your career or job, your health, safety, your home, finances, relationships, and so on. An imbalanced root chakra may turn into behaviors ruled predominantly by fear.
Another issue in the root chakra is when it is overactive, this may result in you loathing change of any description.
Risk factors of an overactive root chakra
Possibly the most common signs the root chakra is overactive are:
- Anger
- Irritation
- Quick temper
- Self-indulgence
- Belligerence
- Aggression
- Impatience
- Feeling trapped or stuck
- Paranoia
- Sexual dysfunction
- Restlessness
Physical symptoms of an overactive root chakra can include bladder problems, constipation, back pain, fatigue, lethargy, and anaemia.
Chakra balancing and healing for the root chakra
To balance this energetic center can be relatively easy depending on the severity of the imbalance.
Chakra balancing can be restored by altering your diet, getting plenty exercise, and by using meditation as part of your daily routine.
Possibly one of the best ways to combat an imbalance in the root chakra and help with chakra balancing in this energetic center is to connect directly to the earth. For example, get outside and walk on unpaved paths, maybe even take your shoes off and walk barefoot on the earth, or grass, dig your hands into the earth, plant seeds, hug a tree and connect with the earth.
Another method for connecting with the earth if you do not have daily access to an outside space is to visualize grounding yourself into the earth by imagining a grounding cord made a burgundy red light, from your root chakra that goes right to the center of the earth, grounding you firmly.
When your root chakra is functioning well, you will almost certainly feel grounded, secure, and coordinated with your world and the world around you.
