Tarot cards, which are often referred to as "the book of divination of the gypsies" are a deck of 78 cards with various pictures on them.
There are two words which are used by Gypsies for fortune telling traditions – “dukkering” which is the modification of a Wallaco-Sclavonian word meaning something spiritual or ghostly.
And Bocht which is a Persian word meaning or connected to the Sanscrit bagya, which means fate.

Whether playing cards were initially intended for fortune telling or for games is still not known. What we do know though is by the 16th Century normal playing cards were being used for fortune telling and by the 18th Century were used in daily life.
History even suggests Napoleon to have consulted the cards on a regular basis.
It is believed that the Roma Gypsy people brought gypsy fortune telling traditions to Europe. Gypsies considered Tarot "the book of divination of the gypsies" as a book of realization and understanding which could be read by those who understood its mysterious symbolic language.
In this article History of the Gypsy Tarot Spread, we are going to look at the “Gypsy Tarot Spread” which uses 21 cards, which are laid out in vertical columns of three cards each, or three horizontal rows of seven cards each. The Gypsy Tarot Spread looks at present and future effects as well as possible and unseen aspects.
The spread is dealt right to left rather than left to right. The psychic tarot card reader will read the columns going down so for example 7 – 7 – 7 will be read first, and so on…
