Did you ever wish you could light a candle, say some bizarre words and suddenly your wish comes true? It sure would be nice, but that's not what a spell is, actually.
A spell is intent. A spell is gathering your inner self and visualizing something positive and then asking that it be manifested. It's positive thought put into energy.
Yes, a pretty candle is nice to have and can actually help you focus your thoughts on what it is you're asking. Sweet smelling oils applied to the candle can give you the energy to concentrate and relax. A beautiful setting like a bunch of flowers in a simple vase sitting on a fancy cloth can put you in the mood.
But is it all necessary? Or can you just close your eyes, reach inside of yourself and picture what you wish to achieve?
A word of caution. Please be sure that your intent is pure. The Universe has a perverse way of turning negativity back on the person wishing it on someone else.
Fancy incantation or just simple words? It doesn't matter. It's what makes you feel best and allows you to put the thought out there. Indoors or outside? It doesn't matter. Do your invocations wherever you feel comfortable. Some feel more grounded barefoot in the grass while others feel plugged into the Cosmos sitting at a computer keyboard. Your choice.
Should you call it a spell? Dictionary.com tells us the word comes to English from Middle English: spellen derived from Old French: espeller out of Germanic; compare Old English spellian which means "to talk, announce" (derivative of spell), and Old High German -spellōn, and Old Norse spjalla, Gothic spillōn.
Yes, "Spell" means to talk, to announce. So we are announcing our intentions when we "cast" a spell. Isn't that something?
So go "announce" your "intent" and put good out into the world...
