One way we try to understand people collectively is by grouping them together within a certain period of time, usually around 15 to 20 years, which we call generations according to askastrology.com. Each generation has distinctive historical events that shape them and attitudes that define them.
This article will look at astrological generations based on the two slowest moving bodies in our solar system, Neptune and Pluto, and discuss the distinctive characteristics of those generations based on the signs those points occupied when they were synched up.
The Current Six Generations (by Common Name and Time Period)
If you search news feeds at this time, you will find plenty of articles about Millennials and Baby Boomers, and the significant tension between the generation going into or already in retirement (Boomers) and the generation coming into its prime economic power (Millennials – age 28 to 40). The prime economic power time for Boomers was between 1974 and 1994.
Each generation has significant markers that help define the generation as a “generation”. Below are the current six-generation divisions and the moniker given to each.
As of 2019, the breakdown by age looks like this:
The Greatest Generation (or GI Generation): They were born in 1924 or earlier.
The Silent Generation: They were born between 1925-1945.
Baby Boomers: They were born between 1944 and 1964.
Generation X: They were born between 1965 – 1979.
Generation Y (Millennials): They were born between 1980 and 1994.
Generation Z: They are the newest generation to be named and were born between 1995 and 2015.
Astrology offers generational groups based on specific times Neptune and Pluto enter and exit signs, and on the duration, they align together and overlap.
The Six Astrological Generations
Rather than talk in terms of social change, popular culture, politics, and economics, which shape the traditional generational categories, astrological generations are more clearly and easily identified. While the individual meanings of Neptune in a sign and Pluto in a sign have their own merit, it is the overlapping periods I want to focus on for this article, which will combine the two separate meanings into a generational combination.
