Tarot Card of the Day by StarzGnosis - The Hierophant.

Jun 29, 2016

Keyword: Conviction Song: "You've Got to Stand for Something" by Aaron Tippin

In the Rider-Waite-Smith version, there's The Hierophant facing two acolytes. The acolytes, her students, are waiting for The Hierophant to direct them.

Her right hand is raised in an act of blessing. Two fingers are pointed upward, to Heaven, and two downward, to Earth. Thus, she creates a bridge with her right hand. Her left hand holds a triple cross.

She sits upon a throne that’s between two pillars. The pillars represent law and liberty.

Finally, at her feet, are two keys that form an “X” or X-shaped cross. These are the keys to Heaven.

It’s hard to overlook the obvious religious symbolism here. Typically, the message of the of this Tarot card is religious authority. And, if you're comfortable with religious dogma, that’s great!

But, if you’re not, no worries! I’m not going to be touching on religion much in this interpretation.

Let’s look at what The Hierophant represents. She’s THE religious symbol, aliving and breathing version of religious doctrine.

For many people, she’s THE go-to person for living their faith. It’s JUST her.

As such, she is ALWAYS representing the religious way. She’s never NOT the religious icon. Her conviction is to embody the religious way for the masses.

And conviction is exactly what I think of when The Hierophant graces my presence. Specifically, I think about what my convictions are and what purpose they serve for me.

For instance, I’m a big, HUGE, believer in Tarot readings. So much so that I built a website to help give others Tarot readings.

Now, these Tarot readings aren’t magical in and of themselves. Rather, it’s the message they give the seeker, the advice, and the wisdom to act. The wisdom to do what needs be done to achieve what you want.

My conviction, my belief, in Tarot comes from the magic I’ve seen them do. It’s from the way the Tarot always know what you, the seeker, need to hear most.

My other conviction is to be proudly myself. Let my freak flag wave way up high.

To me this means to feminize the Tarot. There's no reason The Hierophant CAN'T be a woman.

Women are just as knowledgeable and have just as much conviction as men do. More, maybe!

Nothing shows this better than the song, "You've Got To Stand for Something". It's all about knowing what you're willing to stand up for.

To quote a little bit of it: "You've got to stand for something or you fall for anything. You've got to be your own man, not a puppet on a string."

Today, if you're willing, take a stand for what YOU believe in! Stand tall and proud! Know in your heart that the cause is just and the reasons are sure.

Don't get taken in by speeches that pander to your hopes and fears. That's not what The Hierophant is about.

Rather, dig deep to the bedrock of your spirit. Once you've found it, listen to what it says.

Who are you? What drives you to get up each day?

Find the tiny spark within your soul. Do things that nurture that spark into a flame.

Only do things that expand tha spark. Don't waste any time on things that take away from that spark's flame.

Embrace your true self! Be your true self!

What if you don't know who that person is? Find out!

Ask yourself what causes you'd support until your dying day. Or ask yourself what cause would enjoy your support.

What cause has you worked up into a tizzy? What belief has you singing from the rooftops?

What are your beliefs? How strong are they?

I don't ask that to be a jerk. I ask that to make you think about your convictions.

Why do you act the way you do? What belief motivates you?

Should you allow that belief to motivate you? Why or why not?

What belief should be motivating you? What conviction should be motivating you?

When all else falls away, who are you? What makes your soul beat in time with God and/or The Universe?

One final quote from today's song "Whatever you do today, you'll have to sleep with tonight." Are you prepared for tonight's rest?
