Astrology is a very ancient method of understanding ourselves and the world around us. You wouldn’t think it could be brought into the 21st Century, but here’s a little primer that might help you go from Astro to Geek using each planet’s attributes.
Astro: The Sun defines your personal identity, your ego and your unique self-expression. It represents what you are trying to become. It's the core of who you are. Your spirit, your soul, your consciousness, your basic drive, are all represented by the Sun.
Geek: The Sun defines the center of being in a computer or the Central Processing Unit. Without the CPU/core there is no life or computing.
Astro: The Moon helps define our emotional development, or express the unconscious side of our personality. It explains why you do what you do. The Moon also influences our senses depending on its placement in the birth chart and is said to represent your instinctual self, which many people keep hidden.
Geek: The Moon touches the computer in expressive ways and thus rules the desktop and folders on it. The background color is an expression of your inner being and the folder icons you choose bring the inner you to life.
Astro: Mercury defines our mind and the way we use it. Intelligence, language, speech, writing and all forms of communication are under the influence of Mercury.
Geek: The planet Mercury is involved in reaching out and communicating and how your computer is connected to the outer world is ruled by this planet. Broadband, modem, WiFi are all Mercury ruled.
Astro: In Astrology, Venus represents the qualities of love, romance, sensuality, culture, beauty, affection and social appeal. The planet is therefore very prominent in aspects of love; influencing how you attract love as well as how you act in a relationship.
Geek: Venus touches us at our deepest levels and how we interact with others and because of that it rules software. Our desires, our creative nature, how we reach out are all dependent on the software we use.
Astro: Mars indicates a sense of impulsiveness, aggressiveness, courage, action, will-power, enthusiasm, and even negative traits such as impatience, temperament, violence and conflict. Mars energy also motivates and drives a person to accomplish their dreams and goals in life.
Geek: Mars is the energy in our computer and without the power supply nothing happens, nothing turns on. Electricity can be controlled or happen in surges as Mars fluctuates in our lives and our computers.
Astro: Jupiter is considered the planet of luck. It symbolizes expansion, development and good fortune. Jupiter can also show areas where you go to excess.
Geek: Jupiter because of its expansive nature and the fact that everyone loves a good time rules the World Wide Web. Every time you start your URL with “www” think of jovial Jupiter expanding your world and bringing you happiness.
Astro: In Astrology Saturn is the learned Sage; the planet that teaches through experience, challenges, problems and situations. Saturn’s influence provides the endurance, patience and determination to overcome all odds.
Geek: Saturn is Anti-virus software, hands down. The experience of life on the Internet without a way to fend off viruses and Trojans would be horrific. Structured Saturn takes us into the realm of safety and defensiveness by building a firewall around us.
Astro: Its expression is in the form of revolution, change, unpredictability and disruption. Uranus is associated with electricity, computers, astrology, inventions and Society as a whole.
Geek: The world was turned upside down suddenly when the Internet was born. Uranus which astrologically is computers in reality is the Internet.

Geek: There is a darker side to computing and Pluto is that deep hole known as a Virus/Trojan infected machine. Hidden things that sneak up on you as you surf the web and could bring you the dreaded “blue screen of death” are definitely ruled by this dark lord.
