If you are involve in a bad situation try to see where the other person is coming from. Try not to be so angry that you can't see where the other person is coming from. The other person MAY have valid points to the current situation affecting you and this person.
If you feel even after talking to them, that it is still time to leave the situation then you know in your own mind you gave it the best shot you could and you shouldn't feel guilty about how the situation came to an end. Try the best to can to make it amicable but if that don't work then a little time and space will fix if you expect to remain friends after it is all said and done.
