Tarot Card of the Day by StarzGnosis - The Devil.

Jul 7, 2016

Keyword: Obsession Song: "Secret of the Crossroads Devil" by Bone Poets Orchestra

In the Rider-Waite-Smith version, The Devil has a man and a woman bound by chains around their necks. They're tied to the block The Devil perches on.

The man and woman have horns. The woman has a tail of grapes and the man has a tail of fire.

It's clear they are bound to a beast of their own making. How so?

Well, they must have had a reason to even approach The Devil in the first place. Ergo, they put themselves in this mess.

No one says, "Hey, lets give our freedom up and serve The Devil. It'll be fun!" That doesn't happen at all.

Maybe they drank too much, smoked too much, or did too many substances. They let their obsessions c0ntrol them. Not the other way around.

Not that any of those things are bad. They're not when done in moderation.

It's when you MUST have them that you become a slave to them. No longer are you your own person.

The Devil Tarot card is a reminder not to "feed the beast". Do not become trapped by cravings or deeds. Anything that forces you to act a certain way because you're stuck falls under the Tarot's Devil.

Blackmail? Check!

Between a rock and hard place? Check!

Sophie's choice-choosing which of her children gets to live? Check!

As I write this, I'm obsessed. I've fallen prey to the Zynga match three game The Wizard of Oz. It's true!

I have to beat each level and I have to get three stars!

But, I only get a life every thirty minutes. And those lives?

They max out at 5. Five lives to beat a level? Yup!

Now, I could pay to beat it. But I refuse to spend a single pentacle on this game.

What's a Tarot reader to do? Most likely, I'll end up deleting the app from my phone.

I'm a slave to this stupid match three game. It has shiny graphics, original voice actors and all the songs from the movie play as you try to beat the level. All the bells and whistles!

Sometimes though, you get trapped. It happens.

And it sucks. You HAVE to get that Pay-Day loan. You've no choice.

And I'm saying anything about the actions that brought you to that place. Rock and hard place, I get you!

But I AM saying, you have a choice. You can stop beating yourself up over it. You can love yourself.

"But Genevieve, I FAILED. I couldn't do it."

I know, dear reader. I feel the same way. But it doesn't help you to berate yourself.

No matter how you got there, negative self-talk and thoughts are NOT the way out of that mess. So don't do that, ok?

Rather than get trapped in low thoughts, rise above them!

Remember, you are not defined by your choices. Your thoughts define you. So think positive ones!

It's hard to love yourself. But, honey, you gotta break out of the prison of blame sometime.

I know that for some of you, Secret of the Crossroads Devil won't get a listen. I understand why and I respect that.

But for of you who want to, and are curious, give it a listen. There's one reason I chose this song: "I met the Devil in a field. I said, "Oh finally, did you bring my contract?

"And the secret he revealed is that he waits for no one and he's never made a single deal."

The Devil isn't bad. The addiction he offers is where he gets that reputation.

Today, consider your ego. What is it telling you?

Does ego tell you to try that cigarette? Or that you need drugs to fit in and relax?

That's false you don't need those things. They're nice, but not essential.

Consider your addictions. Do they help or hurt you?

When you see The Devil, think about your vices and the things that have you chained to them.

Then think about how you can break free of them. Make a plan and do it today, my friend!

StarzGnosis (KNOW-sis) takes a lenient view of The Devil. Why? Because even The Devil can teach her something. And in all her years of reading Tarot, it's that anyone can become obsessed. It's how you dig your way of it that matters. Not hat you fell prey to it. That's how you move beyond it. Are you addicted to a match three game, caffeine, or chocolate? She's here to help you bust out from that prison!
