Tarot Card of the Day by StarzGnosis - Knight of Cups.

Jun 8, 2016

Keyword: Perceptive Song: "Sleeping Satellite" by Tasmin Archer

In the Rider-Waite-Smith version, there's a Knight on a white horse holding a chalice in front of him. The horse is mid-stride moving toward the right edge of the card-moving East. There's a river before the horse and Knight.

Go and have a listen to "Sleeping Satellite". Done? Great!

I picked this song because it talks about rushing into love. "Did we fly to the moon too soon? Did we squander the chance? In the rush of the race the reason we chase is lost in romance."

Who here hasn't rushed into love? I have.

It's great! The thrill, the excitement!

But as "Sleeping Satellite" shows, rushing love results in losing the little details. And the little details are what matters when the thrill fades away.

Today, answer the question: "How do you handle being in love?" What is love like for you?

Do you rush in all excited and ready for anything! Or, are you the type that dips a toe in to test things out? Get clear on that.

Love takes many forms and the Knight of Cups is every one wrapped in one! She's charming, perceptive, romantic and bold. She's also vain, cunning, cool and defensive.

Don't romanticize love. Don't gloss over the issues. Work them out.

What if you're not in a relationship? What is the Knight offering you then?

The Knight offers a chance to talk about emotions directly. Without guessing or supposing anything. To look into the chalice of your emotions and speak their truths aloud.

Take time each day to communicate with each other. The goal is to be heard and understood. NOT to fix the issue.

You can do this even if you're not in a relationship. Practice active listening. This means actually listening and repeating what the other person said.

Take turns being the speaker and listener. Maintain eye contact and be attentive to each other.

Speakers, organize your thoughts before saying them. If you have a lot to say, pause a lot to allow the listener to summarize your words.

Listeners, use phrases like, "I understood you to say..." "What I heard was..." and "Your point was..." Then switch.

Don't lament a lost romance when you can take steps to prevent it! Don't become a "Sleeping Satellite"!

But, don't expect your lover to sort things out for you either. Especially not if you're part of a non-monogamous or polyamorous relationship.

If your lover has another lover, if that person is the "V", this puts them in a tough spot. Don't be that person!

If you need to talk about your poly situation, find a poly friend to go to. Pick your poly person carefully!

Monogamous friends may not give you useful advice. True story, my best friend of 34 years' advised me this week to leave my spouse and return to Missouri. She did this when I was at a low and vulnerable point.

I called her because I had fond memories of her being reassuring to me as we were growing up. I had forgotten, again, that the last time I called her, I was also vulnerable and she gave me the same advice. Lesson learned, don't call her about this.

The story ends with me realizing 5 minutes in, "Oh yeah, she gives advice that she thinks is great. She does this because she thinks it's what's best for me. It's so not!"

So I keep talking for a few minutes and then say goodbye. That's a second lesson on emotional trust from her I won't soon forget!

Moral of the story: "Know when to disregard bad advice. Do this for your emotional and mental health."
