Superstitions are a part of every culture according to braincharm.com. Here are six of the most interesting superstitions from around the world.

1. In France, stepping in dog poo with your left foot is fine but is unlucky with your right.

In France, there’s a rather popular notion that steeping on dog poop can bring you luck. It all depends on which foot accidentally steps on the dog poop. If it’s the left foot, then it’s good luck for you. It’s bad luck if you step on it with the right foot, and that and luck’s on top of the rather unpleasant fact that you’ve got a mess on your right shoe.

It’s postulated that this superstition came to be as a result of a “let it be” attitude of Parisians for dog poop in the streets. Perhaps the belief came about as a way for the French to console themselves that the uncaring attitude about street dog poop isn’t all bad.

2. People in Nigeria won’t kiss a baby on the lips because they think it is bad luck.

Never kiss a baby on the lips, or they'll drool when they grow into adulthood. Even if this isn't true, you shouldn't really be kissing babies on the lips anyway.

3. Bird poo is a good thing in Russia. If it falls on you or your stuff, then it will make you rich.

There is a Russian  belief that if a bird poops on you, your car or your property, you may receive good luck and riches. The more birds involved, the richer you’ll be! So next time a bird poops on you, remember that it’s a good thing.

4. Don’t put your new shoes on a table in Britain. It brings bad luck.

A belief common in the North of England is that the tradition relates to the coal mining industry. When a miner died in a colliery accident, his shoes were placed on the table as a sign of respect. By extension, doing so was seen as tempting fate or simply as bad taste.

5. Don’t enter a room with your left foot in Spain. It’s thought to bring bad luck.

A superstitious tradition warns Spaniards never to enter a room with their left foot, unless they want to unleash a series of unfortunate events. However it’s possible to reverse the curse by making the sign of the cross three times.

6. People in Japan think placing your chopsticks vertically into a rice bowl brings misfortune.  Sticking your chopsticks vertical in a bowl of rice is bad in Japan. Called tsukitate-bashi , it is incredibly taboo because it reminds Japanese people of funerals, where a bowl of rice is left with two chopsticks standing vertically in the center. It’s also supposed to bring bad luck.
