National Pizza Day according to is dedicated to appreciating pizza, a baked flatbread that is topped with tomato sauce and cheese. Many toppings and sauces can be added to pizzas, including vegetables, meats and seafood. Pizza was invented in Naples, Italy around the 10th century, and has since grown to become one of the most popular foods in America.

In 1905, America’s first pizzeria, Lombardi’s, opened in New York. Since then, pizza consumption in America has increased greatly and many pizza chains, such as Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Papa John’s have emerged. The origin of National Pizza Day is not well understood although accounts of National Pizza Day began to emerge around the 2000s. It is celebrated annually on February 9th.

The world's largest pizza, named Ottavia, was made on December 13, 2012 in Rome, Italy. With a surface are of 1,261.65 mē, the pizza was made by Dovilio Nardi, Andrea Mannocchi, Marco Nardi, Matteo Nardi and Matteo Giannotte. To spread a message of good health, the pizza was made entirely gluten-free.

Fast English Muffin Pizzas

Prep time: 10 min Cook time: 10 min Ready In: 20 min

Fast and VERY kid friendly.. they can make them and all you have to do is bake them! Pizza sauce, cheese and their choice of topping makes this a great snack or anytime meal!


4 English muffins, split
1/2 cup canned pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
16 slices pepperoni sausage (optional)


1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C)
2. Place English muffin halves cut side up onto baking sheet.
3. Spoon some of the pizza sauce over each one
4. Top with mozzarella cheese
5. Add pepperoni or other toppings to taste (mushrooms, blanched veggies, pineapple, etc. Pick a favorite or experiment, they're small enough)
6. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven or until cheese is melted and slightly browned around the edges.
